Artificial insemination with the sperm of the partner (AIH) is an intrauterine insemination (IUI).

It is recommended in the presence of a slight decrease in the number or the mobility of sperm cells or when the cervical mucus secreted in the cervix is not sufficiently permeable.

In general, we propose the hormonal stimulation of the maturation of one or two oocytes and a follow-up of the cycle by vaginal ultrasound and blood tests.

This will allow the doctor to determine the number of maturing ovarian follicles and to predict the day of ovulation. This is when intrauterine insemination will take place.

In the laboratory, after receiving the semen sample (obtained by masturbation), the most mobile sperm cells are collected and transferred to an adapted liquid environment. Then, using a thin cannula (catheter), the doctor will insert these sperm cells into the uterus through the vagina. This shortens the path of the sperm cells and prevents them from having to pass through the cervical mucus.
