Intrauterine insemination with donor sperm (DI) is an intrauterine insemination (IUI). It is recommended in the absence of sperm cells in the semen of the male partner. According to the Swiss law (LPMA), only married couples can benefit from a sperm donation.

The medical indications for sperm donation are:

Azoospermia (absence of sperm in the ejaculate)
Failure of other treatments for male infertility (ICSI) or refusal to employ them
Risk of transmission of a genetic anomaly or infectious disease

The method of intrauterine insemination with donor sperm (DI) is identical to that described for insemination with sperm of the partner (AIH).

In the case of a medical indication, it is also possible to use the sperm of a donor in an IVF-ICSI procedure.
