More than 6000 babies
The activity of the team in the CPMA has enabled thousands of couples to experience pregnancy and birth. More than six thousand babies have thus been born.
We can distinguish the following categories of births, where about:
- 3,000 children were conceived with treatments like artificial inseminationProcess to facilitate the meeting of spermatozoon and egg. Using a catheter, semen prepared for this purpose is brought directly into the uterus. (AI, DI)
- 1,700 children have been born after a fresh embryoTerm designating the early stages of development from conception to the eighth week of pregnancy. From the first cell division on, the two-cell stage, one uses the term embryo. transfer (IVF and ICSIFrom English "Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection." Assisted fertilization by microscope, where a single sperm is injected directly into the oocyte. ICSI is indicated in cases of male fertility problems, so if there are only very few normal sperm in the sperm or the fertilization capacity of sperm is extremely small.)
- 1,300 children have been born after a transfer of cryopreserved zygotes.
Graphically, we can represent the contributions of the various techniques as follows:
Number of children born since 1984 in the context of the UMR (CHUV), since 1999 in the UMR-CPMA, and finally since September 2005 in the context of the CPMA SA, Lausanne.
- FIV: in vitroLatin for "in glass" for example in a test tube, as opposed to processes taking place inside the body. fertilizationFusion of an egg and a spermatozoon, fertilization occurs naturally in the fallopian tubes. and embryoTerm designating the early stages of development from conception to the eighth week of pregnancy.
